My Story…
The Calgary Celiac Association provides support, services and events for the Celiac and gluten intolerant community in Calgary and the surrounding area. I have been involved with the education committee for six years. I started giving presentations about travelling gluten free, and then joined the Celiac 101 committee to help people who have been recently diagnosed with Celiac disease.
In November, I joined the organization as its Event Coordinator. I have enjoyed planning various events for all ages and stages. We've had a family holiday party, a volunteer brunch, Kids Meetups, and a Grocery Store Tour. The sense of community that these events create is as important as the education that we provide. Often people with Celiac disease, feel anxiety at social events as most events revolve around food that is unsafe for them to eat. When we bring people together, they can just be themselves and relax.
To provide education and events, we need money! People with Celiac disease spent exponentially more on food than the average Canadian. We want to continue to provide affordable events to our community, but this is only possible through the donations we receive. Thank you for your support!
