My Story…
Did you know that May is Celiac Awareness Month? Celiac disease is a permanent intolerance to gluten, a protein found in various wheat, rye, barley and triticale. Gluten consumption damages the small intestine and can result in malnutrition, anemia, nutritional deficiencies, an increased risk of other autoimmune diseases and some cancers of the gut.
Unfortunately, this disease afflicts many people in Canada, including my wife, Emily and my daughter, Taylor. The Calgary Celiac Association provides support to those unfortunate enough to have Celiac disease, including increasing community awareness, education and providing celiac friendly events. It's a worthy cause and I'm hopeful you can support it with me.
