My Story…
Following the Calgary flood in 2014, Mike was riding his horse on the previously well-established trails in the backcountry of Kananaskis when his horse became spooked and bucked him off. Mike sustained a head injury which immediately knocked him unconscious and he was airlifted to Foothills Medical Centre. After one month in the ICU, Mike regained consciousness and began his rehabilitation journey. Since 2014, Mike has relearned how to walk, talk, and complete his activities of daily living.
Mike has been an active member of the ARBI community since 2015 and currently engages weekly in ARBI's Walking and Woodshop Programs. Even though it’s been nearly nine years since his injury, Mike reports he is still seeing changes and improvements in his function almost daily.
When ARBI asked Mike why he registered for the Calgary Marathon, he said, "It's an opportunity to show others how persistence pays off!"
