Why I'm Running...
For the last 10 years, I have been looking for new and interesting ways to challenge myself to something I have never done but have wanted to try. I have completed the Mud Hero 5km, CIBC Run for the Cure 5km, Spartan 5km as well as many self paced Virtual Conqueror Challenges ranging in length of 66kms - 1744kms. In 2017, I decided to run my first 1/2 marathon, without any training and the morning after celebrating my sister's Big Crazy Italian wedding!
My step son John has competed in many races in British Columbia (his home province) including various West Coast BMO 1/2 marathons, Squamish 50km, The Boomer Legacy Bike Ride - celebrating the legacy of Andrew "Boomer" Eykelenboom, who passed away during service in Afghanistan - and the Orcas Island 100 Miler (keener)!!! He has been to Ottawa to run the 1/2 marathon race weekend as well and I thought - what better way to have something in common with my adult step son! Being able to chat with him about my training (or lack of), the shoes I will be wearing and my triumphs after completing a race brings our relationships closer despite the many kms of distance between us..
The 1/2 marathon has been my biggest challenge yet and this will be my 3rd year trying to beat my PB.
I look forward to racing with the Perley Team!
