Mon histoire…
I am running on behalf of the Juno Beach Centre. My grandfather, Sergeant George Cooper, landed on Juno Beach on D-Day, June 6th 1944. He fought through France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany with the 14th Field Regiment, fighting for a free Europe and a better future.
His story, and the stories of the million Canadians who served Canada during the Second World War, are told at the Centre, located on Canada’s D-Day landing beach in Normandy, France. June 6th, 2023 is the 20th anniversary of this living Canadian memorial in Normandy.
I am on the Juno Beach Centre Association’s Board of Directors. One major project that we are looking forward to completing is a renewal of our Faces of Canada Today gallery. Funds raised through this event will help the museum with this important project. The new gallery will enhance the way we honour modern Veterans and help visitors to discover the modern Canada that our Second World Veterans helped to build after the victory they secured in 1945.
