Help us raise money

For participating in Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend 2023

Our story…

For the second year in a row, Grandma’s Elephants will be running in Ottawa’s Tamarack Race Weekend to raise money for a very special cause—the Bruyere Foundation. This incredible organization provided my grandmother, Joan Dettrich, with the care she needed before passing away in 2020 after a long, hard fought battle with cancer.

Every donation made to our team will help support the important work done by the Bruyere foundation every day—providing quality and loving care to those in need in the Ottawa community.

The story behind the name:

Our team name, Grandma’s Elephants, is in honour of my grandmother, whose favourite animal was elephants; she always believed they brought her good luck. When she was first admitted to the hospital in 2018, I bought her an elephant stuffed animal in hopes that maybe it could bring her some of that luck. That elephant ended up being the thing that brought her comfort, she loved it and wanted it to be with her in her hospital bed at all times. The nurses and care team at Bruyere always made sure that it was. So in honour of my grandmother's love for elephants and in the hopes that it can bring us a little bit of luck on race day, we chose this team name.

Thank you all so much in advance for your generosity and support—it is truly appreciated more than words can express!
