My Story…
I am running the Toronto Waterfront Marathon for Ovarian Cancer Canada because
1. I am so grateful for the extra two years I got with my Mom, thanks to medical science, but I hope the 3000 people in Canada who get Ovarian Cancer next year, and the years after, get an even better chance.
2. Ovarian Cancer is the leading cause of death for people with gynecologic cancers, the fifth most common cancer in female patients in Canada, and yet it lags behind other common cancers in terms of early detection rates and rates of survival.
3. I want more people to know that early warning signs should not be ignored, including bloating, trouble eating, or feeling full quickly.
4. As an OBGYN resident, I have worked with, and am inspired by, the dozens of families I have met impacted by this devastating disease, and as part of the medical community I want more for them
5. The marathon will mark one year since my Mom’s passing, and running is an outlet for my physical and mental health, time I spend thinking about my Mom, and the life I want to live.
6. Why a marathon? 42km for the 42 times my Mom went to chemo.
If you have some time and ability to donate and support the patients and families affected by ovarian cancer, I would be very grateful.
Donate to help Caroline raise money for 2023 TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon’s fundraising campaign.
