My Story…
I lost my Chocha (Aunt) Jillian to lung cancer last November. My Chocha, who passed at age 47, was not your stereotypical lung cancer patient. She never smoked. She prioritized her health and fitness. She loved hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, running— anything that involved being active and outdoors. We bonded over all of these things.
Throughout her five year battle, my Chocha Jill immersed herself in advocacy work. She was determined to create better outcomes for future patients who would receive the same diagnosis. Before she died, she created a legacy fund at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Her goal was to raise $100,000 for advanced stage lung cancer research. She reached $60,000. I've decided to run the Toronto Waterfront Half Marathon next month to honour her memory, celebrate our shared love of running, and help her get closer to her fundraising goal.
