Help Patricio raise money

For participating in 2023 TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon

My Story…

This year I will run my first half marathon! Not long ago I ran a few 5K races (5 kilometers or 3.1 miles) and would have to stop and walk. Now I can run around 12 miles without stopping! 💪 But a half marathon is a little over 13 miles. It's a big deal! A challenge.

I am training for the race. Usually, I have an internal dialog that goes more or less like this:

- Why are you doing this to yourself!? Go back home!

- Shut up and keep running

- What are you trying to prove? Go home and watch some soccer on TV

- Shut up and keep running

- Go home and take a nap, dummy

- I said: Shut up and keep running!!!

And then all of a sudden, as if by magic, I get "in the zone". I feel no pain or discomfort. It's just me, enjoying nature. The body moves in auto-pilot. The breeze/wind in my face. And there are NO problems in the world. Just pure bliss.

So I do keep running and every single time I feel AWESOME after completing my run. Accomplished. The other day I couldn't help but feel like an unstoppable machine! Yeah

Still... it's not easy. Also, three years ago I lost a lot of weight, started running a lot, and was doing great. But then last year I had meniscus surgery, which meant that I could not run for about 8 months... So in a way, I had to start over from the beginning. Building endurance and mental resilience.

I KNOW that I will never ever win a race. I'm slow and I'm OK with that.

My goals are:

* Sign up for the race. Done!

* Start the race. Just by starting I will beat more than 8 billion people 😉

* Finish the race. This one is tricky.

* Run the entire race. I will do my best not to walk.

* Ideally, I won't come in last place.

So... IF (big IF, in uppercase) you want to help me accomplish this lofty goal of finishing my very first half marathon, I have a proposal for you: please donate to Doctors without Borders in my name. When I get an urge to stop and walk, or Google forbid get any ideas about quitting the race, I will think about *you* and your support and how I won't let you down. And I will continue running.

It will be GREAT!

Description

I have pledged to support Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).

MSF is an independent emergency medical humanitarian organization that has more than 40,000 staff members working in humanitarian crises in close to 70 countries. Right now, MSF medical teams are saving lives all over the world. MSF would not be able to make such a difference in the lives of people caught in crises without the generosity of individual donors.

More than 95 per cent of MSF’s funding comes from private donations, rather than from governments or large institutions. This gives MSF the independence to act decisively and to go wherever the needs are greatest, without additional political pressure or interference.

I have decided to support MSF, and it would mean so much to me if you would consider supporting my fundraising goal. Each donation counts.

Together, we can help alleviate suffering and change lives.

Your generosity allows MSF teams to continue saving lives by delivering urgent care to people made vulnerable by disaster, conflict, disease or exclusion from healthcare.

Thank you for your support!
