My Story…

Running for a purpose makes all the difference.

I'm running for Operation Smile because they are dedicated to delivering smiles and comprehensive care to children born with cleft lip and palate. Through the Next Decade of Love and Leadership, Operation Smile is determined to reach 1 million smiles and is motivated in challenging the global landscape of medicine - striving for equitable access to cleft care for all. A big piece of this very complex puzzle is engaging with strategic hospital partners, academic institutions, and governments to effectively advocate for more equitable access to cleft care. Education and building sustainable foundations, relationships, and goals, are all important factors in redefining our global healthcare system.

I'm also running for all of those who are going through a loss of a loved one. I recently lost my Dad the night of Father's Day. It has been a challenge navigating the grief, and just losing such an important person in my life. I'm running for him and myself. Grief and loss suck, and I'm here to motivate myself and (maybe) others who are struggling with their own grief and life struggles to take the first step in doing things out of your comfort zone, things you've always wanted to do, or just something that reminds you of the person you lost.

Everything starts with taking the first step..in this case, approximately 4,500-6,500 steps for this (5K) marathon.

So come on out and run, either virtually or in person, if not please consider supporting Operation Smile in any capacity you can.

As my dad always liked to quote from Monthy Python, 'Always look at the bright side of life.'

Description

I am running in support of Operation Smile Canada because every 3 minutes, a precious child is born with a cleft condition.

In high-income countries like Canada, surgery to fix cleft conditions is common and is usually done before a child is 18 months old.

In low and middle-income countries, it can take years to receive treatment. Children and their families face enormous hurdles that prevent them from accessing the surgical care they need.

Through their expertise in treating cleft lip and cleft palate, Operation Smile creates solutions that deliver safe surgery to people where it’s needed most.

Your donation will help to provide surgery, deliver complete care, and save lives!
