My Story…
I serve on the Board of Directors of Eli's Place because I believe that far too many young people suffering from serious mental illness don't have access to the treatment that they need. For many of the 160,000 young adults in Ontario with serious mental illness, traditional clinical therapy is not enough. Lacking access to long-term holistic residential care, these young adults cycle in and out of acute care in hospital ERs. The threat of suicide is real with more than 1 in 7 reporting suicidal thoughts.
Eli's Place's vision is to close the existing gap.
This year, as part of the Eli's Place team participating in the TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon, I will be running a half marathon on October 15. This exciting event is a crucial part of our fundraising efforts focused on realizing Eli's Place's vision for a rural residential treatment centre for young adults with serious mental illness.
Please support me as part of the Eli's Place team by making a donation! Your support is greatly appreciated.
Description
For the 160,000 young adults in Ontario grappling with serious mental illness, access to effective treatment is grossly inadequate. The cost in lives lived with debilitating challenges or lost to early death is far too great. The vision of Eli’s Place aims to bring hope. A first-of-its-kind in Canada, Eli’s Place is modelled after a leading rural, residential long-term treatment centre with proven success. Programs that incorporate therapeutic work, specialized care and skills training will offer a path to recovery for people in this underserved age group, giving them the tools to heal and move from simply surviving to living.
