My Story…
Being part of the Canadian-South Asian diaspora, I know that for the diasporic minds, art and literature are two of the many wings on which reconnection with origins is made possible. As Pooja Mittal Biswas notes, “The farther they traverse, the more driven they are to participate … in telling stories about their origins, to themselves and to their children, so as to bridge the gap between their new ‘sky’ and the old, far across the ‘sea’ … of experience.”
We at Friends of South Asia (FSA), the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), are dedicated towards constructing, maintaining and preserving all kinds of bridges that lead to the numerous South Asian origins and identities.
To make this happen, I am extremely fortunate to be fundraising with the FSA as we collect donations for a new acquisition, project preserving the work of an important and path-breaking Canadian artist P Mansaram, as well as a future internship.
Committee members walked 5K in support of this at the Toronto Waterfront Marathon, with the hope that we are able to raise more than our stated goal. To help us achieve our goal, please donate here.
Let’s pass the baton from our ancestors on to the next generations!
