I’m Stepping it Up for Science because…
Once again, I am enthusiastically participating in the Toronto Waterfront Marathon in support of Scientists in School. I hope that I can count on your support! As Scientists in School (and the world!) continues to recover from COVID-19 and as we unite to address complex environmental and social challenges, the importance of our mission and vision has never been more important in our 34-year history.
Children in every corner of Canada need opportunities that support them in seeing that STEM is both relevant in the world around them, and as a career pathway. All children need opportunities to deepen their environmental literacy, critical thinking skills, and confidence in STEM. However, opportunities for children to have the science and environmental literacy 'spark' lit, and/or role models to help them see themselves in STEM, are not equitable.
Transformation is not new in Scientists in School's 34-year journey. However, it's pace has been remarkably different in response to both the challenges of COVID and the opportunities along its edges. None of us could ever have imagined that launching a second workshop model to navigate the pandemic - a selection of highly investigative, interactive online workshops with materials shipped ahead - would catapult us to reaching our dreams of an inclusive program for children anywhere they live in Canada. This year is shaping up to be both our hardest and our most impactful yet, as we work to rebuild our Onsite Workshop Model steadily, while our enriched Online Workshop Model remains an enduring one. Your support will make a meaningful difference, more than words can say.
Description
Donate, and help me Step it Up for Science!
I’m taking part in the 2023 TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon and helping Scientists in School raise $20,000 for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) enrichment workshops across Canada.
Your donation will help bring hands-on STEM workshops to children in lower income, rural and remote communities from coast to coast, giving them the opportunity to BE a scientist in school today, and BECOME the researchers, engineers and technologists we need for tomorrow.
Every donation makes a difference for young scientists!
- $27 helps us pack neat goodies into mini science bags, one for each student in the class
- $52 helps us buy the neat stuff for those mini science bags -- from salt to string to soap to stir sticks -- so each student can experiment
- $315 helps us deliver a hands-on interactive workshop for a whole classroom
Our $20,000 target can provide enough workshops for over 1,400 children to become Scientists in School!
Please donate today in support of Scientists in School. Or, follow us and share your support on social media. @sci_in_school, #STEPitUPforSTEM, #STEPitUpforScience, #ChoosetoSupportScientistsinSchool, #ChooseTORun, #TOWaterfront42K
