My Story…
Since 2017, my family and I have participating in the Butterfly Run in honour of our dear son Michael who passed away earlier that year. We were very excited to learn we were pregnant and looked forward to his birth. Unfortunately, that came earlier than intended and he was born prematurely at 25 weeks. Though tiny he did remarkably well in his first days of life and we had every hope that he would do well. A week later he took a sudden turn for the worst as his small body could not fight infection. Those initial days following his death were a blur. You feel like a ghost, or living outside your body. The emotional pain would even manifest itself physically. It was grief.
The work at the Roger Neilson House and particularly the Perinatal Bereavement Program was vital in helping me move through it. They offer free private counselling, group therapy for mom, partners and even siblings. It’s a safe space to talk, cry, yell or even be silent all at once. Over 1 in 4 pregnancies may end in loss. Let’s not keep this taboo. Please donate.
***This year I’m bringing back my HOMEMADE APPLE PIE CONTEST****.
The top 3 donations will get a homemade apple pie, with apples made from my own backyard! (Minimum donation for the pie prize is $50).
Donate to help Darlene raise money for Butterfly Run Ottawa 2023’s fundraising campaign.
