My Story…
We may not be the fastest runners, but we are here to support increased screening and awareness of colon cancer. My own screening was expected to take quite a long time after my GP put in the initial request because my risk levels were so low, but luckily for me, I was able to take advantage of a short notice cancellation spot and the 7cm tumour in my rectum was discovered before it got totally out of control. Quick action allowed me to get rid of that invader and "kick cancer in the butt" even though that's where it was trying to get me. More screening means more people who can tell a story like this and maybe leads to fewer stories like this in the long run because it leads to finding the cause of the problem and stopping cancer before it even gets started. That is my goal.
We may be "bringing up the rear" in the race, but we will also be "bringing up the rear" by talking about bums and encouraging anyone with any concerns to see about getting themselves checked.
