My Story…
As a devoted husband and caretaker, I have personally witnessed the devastating impact of colorectal cancer on young families.
Unfortunately, this disease is on the rise among healthy individuals, yet the medical system has not adjusted to this steep increase, resulting in delayed diagnosis and treatment. The heart-wrenching stories we have heard would move anyone to tears. It's crucial to raise awareness of this issue because, at any given moment, it could be you or someone you love facing this situation. When cancer spreads, our medical system has limited options for treatment.
My wife, who is extremely healthy, was neglected by our system, resulting in a late-stage diagnosis. Despite enduring 22 rounds of chemotherapy, she has been thriving for over two years. However, she was informed that she will need to continue chemotherapy for the rest of her life, which averages around three years. Fortunately, targeted treatment options are available, which can significantly extend life expectancy. With the help of Filomena at Colorectal Cancer Research & Action Network (CCRAN), my wife underwent advanced surgeries, including radiation (SBRT), cryoablation, and lung resection.
She will be having open lung surgery in Toronto (yes, she had to fly out of Vancouver to get the treatment she needed) this surgery only was a possibility because of Filomena. This is why we need to support organizations that go straight to the individual and their families 💙
