My Story…

In 2009 Brian Pinksen, Justin Eddison and myself embarked on training for TF 1-10 of Op Athena with 2 RCR. Unfortunately despite my best efforts the 3 of us were separated and sent to different platoons. A few months in theatre and we were separated once again during the summer of 2010 with Justin and Brian being sent to Masum Ghar, Panjwai District.

On August 30th, 2010 I received the crippling news that Brian had succumb to his injuries while being treated at a hospital in Germany after being struck by an IED in Panjwai.

Brian was the embodiment of what it meant to be a soldier in both physical discipline and adherence to military ethos.

In 2020, on the 20th anniversary of Brian's passing, Justin brought this amazing initiative to my attention. While it was too late to join the run in 2020 i have commited myself to running it every year after, until my body no longer can.

This will be my 3rd year participating in the Commanders Challenge which traditionally was a Half Marathon plus a 5km. This year it has been updated to a Half Marathon + 10km + 5km. The rules allow you to run these separate from each other but as a challenge I always ran the 26km at one time. This year will be 36km and mark my furthest distance I have ever ran.

This fundraiser goes toward CAF soldiers, via Support our Troops and Soldier On, who are still fighting the battle in Afghanistan.

LET’S RUN, WALK & ROLL TOGETHER IN 2023

Welcome to Canada Army Run 2023! We are so excited that the Army Run family will be able to join hands again this year, both virtually and in-person to run, walk, or roll in support of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) community. We are counting on your support to join us in championing this important cause!

Canada Army Run offers Canadians the opportunity to come together and thank the CAF members who serve our nation both at home and abroad, and their families. Military families are directly affected by aspects of the military lifestyle of continuous relocations, absences, and transitions.

Support Our Troops and Soldier On, the official charitable causes of the Canadian Armed Forces, are the beneficiaries of the funds raised by Canada Army Run and its participants.

Support Our Troops helps members of the Canadian Armed Forces, Veterans, and their families navigate the realities of military life through a variety of grants and programs designed to strengthen family resiliency and provide support to the ill and injured.Soldier On is a CAF program, which contributes to the recovery of ill and injured CAF members and veterans by providing opportunities and resources through sport, recreational, and creative activities. Since its creation in 2007, Soldier On has supported over 10,000 ill and injured CAF members and veterans using sport and physical recreational activities to enable social support, build confidence in their abilities and realize their full potential.

 Your efforts will:

  • empower youth to pursue their academic dreams
  • maintain the dignity, independence, and well-being of families during financial hardship
  • send children of military families to camp bringing them a renewed energy and a support network
  • support ill and/or injured members in their rehabilitation and recovery through the transformative power of sport, recreation, and creative pursuits with the Soldier On Fund

The funds you raise will ensure that the members of the Canadian Armed Forces have access to the financial resources they need, when they need them the most. On behalf of our members in uniform – who do so much to keep us safe at home and abroad – Thank you for standing with us.

  • habiliter les jeunes à concrétiser leur rêve de poursuivre des études;
  • maintenir la dignité, l’autonomie et le bien-être des familles lors de difficultés financières;
  • envoyer des enfants de familles de militaires à des camps, leur donnant un regain d’énergie et un réseau de soutien;
