My Story…
Fox Cadets, cause foxes are smart and agile.
I am Dominique (team organiser) and my daughter is Sabine who did a Veteren's for Youth bootcamp 2 years ago, and is now reconciled to live back with me, after family stuff with Dad of the last few years. Sabine has overcome many hurdles, she is a mini-me, diagnosed in last year with ADHD and always dyslex, so school has been tough.
This year,I have recently been diagnosed as an adult with Aspergers and ADHD, so some sensemaking has been achieved.
At the end of October I was involuntarily put into Caboolture Hospital for a treatment authority for 19 days for hyper mania?, they said hyper maniac - I disagree such a strong word "maniac".
I believe I was being a normal human being expressing grief (swinging between sadness and anger) and overwhelm from a few shitty things happening all at once.
I've learnt that expressing "big" feelings scares a lot of people. I've learnt being super honest (in an aspergers kind of way can get you in trouble). I've learnt I see the best in people with a kind of innocence that can get me hurt time and again.
I've learnt swearing in public makes you agressive - again I disagree.
I think dropping the F-word and being assertive to people (a store manager, and a bigger store secuirty that called police instead of resolving a customer service issue) that chose to use heirarchal power over me, and I sat on the floor (a position of submission in the animal kingdom) but which they still found (disturbing, funny, threatening).
I've learnt that a "peaceful protest" nowadays makes you look "crazy", I've learnt some parts of society have become very scared and mean.
I will always stand-up for injustice and I do-not regret doing so.
I've learnt a lot of people are feeling overwhelmed and might not even realise it. What's your baseline? Are you ok?
On this journey with us are very good friends and old neighbours Kristine and Emma (Emma being a bestie friend to Sabine) where we all lived on the same street for many years until Kris moved upto the sunny coast and she offered to care for Sabine when I was admitted to hospital mental health ward against my will - it takes a "village".
We are here to be super heros with our Aspergers and ADHD superpowers and fundraise and give it a go (I am injured so it will be a walk by me - Dominique, as I sprained my ankle 8 weeks ago, and it is not getting better to be able to run).
We will update the page with our costumes. I will be sporting Captain America gear :), to raise funds for the "Make A Wish Foundation"
Donate to help Dominique raise money for The 5K Foam Fest - Brisbane’s fundraising campaign.
