Why I Am Running for Cure SMA

Hello Family & Friends,

Yes, you guessed it, it's that time of year. We are back for year #9 in a row, with an even bigger team than last year. Please welcome 1st time Falmouth Road Runners, the one and only Joe Marie, Ben Cox "Coxy", John Pendergast "Pendy" & my brother James Pembroke to our team. I am thankful to have John Zimmerman "Zim" back for his 2nd year in a row as well. The six of us have teamed up with Team Cure SMA for the 51st running of the Falmouth Road Race. We are very excited to run for such a great cause. To make our fundraising simple, we are sharing this page, so any donation made here will support all of us.

This is an exciting time to be a part of the Cure SMA team, as strides are always being made for treating Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Spinraza continues to work its magic for new borns and older patients as well. William receives Spinraza every 4 months, and notices small improvements after each visit.

As a proud alum of Colby College (Go Mules!), Will is hard at work with the New England Revolution. Spinraza has helped Will power through the work week at Gillette Stadium, and it is inspiring to see tangible benefits for a breakthrough like Spinraza. Over time, those small increases add up to make a huge difference, and we all love Will's attitude to be a little bit better today than yesterday. The six of us are certainly inspired by his outlook, and it serves as a great reminder for all of us: to make significant progress in any endeavor takes time, and we will continue to battle for these small improvements one day and year at a time.

Every donation counts, and we are thankful for any gift you consider. Every dollar helps fuel research that leads to breakthroughs like Spinraza, and helps warriors like Will to live a little easier. In 2015, the 1st year Will and I teamed up with Cure SMA, Spinraza was not available. This is a great example of the strides we can make together, and why we are so excited to come back year after year.

While the goal posted on this page is a dollar figure, our goal every year is to have more donor names on this page than ever before. That is our team goal. The money is important for funding breakthroughs like Spinraza, but to have the support of great people, to know there are others pulling for you when the going gets tough, that is the most meaningful donation of all. We keep growing our team of runners, and that is thanks to you all continuing to support this great cause. I am especially grateful for Joe, Ben, John & John, and James for making this possible, their passion to join in and keep this going along with all your support is why we keep coming back, and have no plans to stop any time soon.

This is Team William Johnson from Medfield, MA, and together, we're as strong as we've ever been. We hope you consider a gift to our efforts. Thank you so much for your time and consideration. Together, we will find a cure.
