Help Rick raise money

This August, by the grace of God, I will be running The Falmouth Road Race on TeamBAF to help raise funds for The Brain Aneurysm Foundation (BAF).

As many of you know, I suffered a brain aneurysm rupture inside an AVM.  As a life-long runner and marathoner, I've had many non-runners tell me that running would kill me.  It almost happened – I was out for a 3-mile run at the beginning of my training schedule for the Marine Corps Marathon – at mile two I experienced a severe headache – couldn’t move my head – complete brain fog.  Fortunately, due to the swift actions of my daughter and wife, I made it to the hospital and the superb neuro team in Charlotte stopped the bleed and removed the AVM with no deficits – I am a lucky and blessed man. Now that I am in “the bonus round” I can watch my 5 grandchildren grow.  

I am running for The Brain Aneurysm Foundation because it is literally a matter of life or death for people who will experience a rupture in the future.  Each year, an average of 30,000 people suffer a rupture, with half of those ruptures resulting in death and over half the survivors experiencing physical and mental deficits. This is preventable with continued research and scanning – the question is – wouldn’t you want the best care possible if you or your loved ones suffered an aneurysm rupture?

My recovery is complete and am ready to resume my running - my love for running is as strong as ever and I can’t wait to run the Falmouth Road Race again. My hope is that a day will come when nobody has to suffer the effects of this preventable affliction.
