My Story…
The Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech has made a significant impact on Finn and the rest of our family. I’m so grateful to run the Falmouth Road Race in support of this fantastic charity. When you have a child in the deaf and hard of hearing community, it is so important to have the support of a licensed teacher of the deaf.
When Finn transitioned from Kennedy Donovan Center into public preschool after his first year, we began to understand how important it would be to surround him with deaf and hard of hearing specialists. That’s where Clarke came in.
We were in the middle of the pandemic when Finn started at Clarke, but he still thrived via online learning. Prior to the pandemic, Clarke already offered virtual courses to college students who were becoming teachers of the deaf. Their expertise helped Finn with virtual school, and after the restrictions were lifted, he was more than ready for his kindergarten year at Clarke.
Finn’s teachers made sure he achieved every benchmark and completed his goals in order to mainstream him back to the public school system. The staff at Manomet Elementary worked closely with Finn’s team at Clarke to create an excellent IEP and nurture a smooth transition.
Today, Finn has a great attitude about school, gets to visit Clarke an Alumni Reader and tells the class about his new school experience.
I want you to know that your gift will ensure that children who are deaf or hard of hearing are equipped with academic skills, self-advocacy tools, and confidence in educational settings and in everyday life. Thank you for supporting our family and the Clarke School!
Description
At Clarke we teach children who are deaf or hard of hearing to listen and talk.
Children served by Clarke use advanced technologies, including cochlear implants and hearing aids, to maximize their access to sound. We work with children and their families from infancy through their teen years. Our teachers of the deaf, audiologists and speech-language pathologists have the background, training and experience to prepare children academically and socially for a world of limitless possibilities.
Clarke children listen and learn in the classroom, run and laugh with their friends on the playground, and have lives filled with music, sports, family and community. Many children who come to Clarke are ready to attend their neighborhood schools by preschool and kindergarten.
In addition to our work with children, we serve families and adults through a wide range of programs and services. With our extensive staff of experts, physical locations along the Eastern Seaboard and a robust teleservices program delivering services remotely, we strive to reach people with hearing loss at all stages of life.
