Help Una raise money

For participating in The 2023 ASICS Falmouth Road Race

My Story…

The Lurie Center continues to be essential for Anjan and Sachin as the boys move into adulthood.  They turned 20 this year, and Anjan is pictured here in one of his few favorite spaces in the world-at school behind his desk in his classroom for one.  While Sachin is thriving in his health and day programming, Anjan continues to struggle with severe social anxiety and self isolating with a very limited life and limited people he can be in close proximity to for essential tasks and daily care.  We are starting a very hopeful medication trial under the careful guidance and expertise of Dr. McDougle and his incredible nursing staff who check in with us weekly on symptoms and dosage.  We are hopeful and grateful that Dr. McDougle, his team and the Lurie Center are willing to continue to try to help Anjan despite his lack of response to most medications for anxiety and behavior.  Dr. McDougle has conducted this medication trial for others in similar situations and has changed the lives of many families, one of them being my dear friend.  We continue to hope for a better life for Anjan so he can be in touch with people who love him and to broaden his world.

We receive multiple levels of care for the boys ranging from Primary Care from the incredible Dr. Bath to GI specialty care from Dr. Kadzielski to Dr. Neumeyer and Dr. McDougle.  All these specialists work together to ensure that the boys are receiving the best possible coordinated care.

Please give to the Lurie Center who saves lives, improves lives, and gives hope to those of us who don't have many other places to turn. Amit and I will match your donation dollar for dollar if we reach our goal.

Thank you.

With love,

Una and Amit

Description

All money raised through the ASICS Falmouth Road Race will help fund the Lurie Center's Family Support Team; a consultative lifeline helping patients & families navigate the difficult medical, therapeutic and life decisions related to caring for an individual with autism. Whether it is a question about insurance, educational support, adult services, or a sibling adjustment concern, because of the generous donations collected through this event, the Family Support Team is just a phone call away. They meet one-on-one with families, but also field an estimated 7,500 calls per year, and make an additional 4,500 or so follow-up calls.

Autism diagnoses are on the rise. The number of patients seen at the Lurie Center is growing steadily with more than 10,000 appointments during the last year. Unfortunately, less than half of the clinical costs are covered by health insurance reimbursements.

Charitable support is essential for the vitality of the clinic and there is an extraordinary opportunity to double this event's fundraising efforts. Thanks to the Nancy Lurie Marks Foundation, every donation received will be matched dollar for dollar.
