My Story…
Hello!
I am proud to be running the Falmouth Road Race on behalf of Valeria's Foundation for KCNT1 research for a second year. This is an amazing event and a great cause to be fundraising for.
My friend Brian Wolf told me about Valeria's story last year. His wife Amber had been a teacher at the school Valeria attended after moving to the area with her family from Switzerland. They saught the expert care of Boston's top hospitals and research doctors.
Shortly after birth, Valeria was diagnosed with the rare KCNT1 gene mutation which meant that she would lead a challenging life with limited cognitive and physical development. Her condition required a significant level of care from her parents, medical professionals, and early childhood professionals like Amber.
With the help of Boston Children's Hospital and researchers with the Harvard Medical School, a treatment was developed which proved to be successful but sadly, Valeria passed away a year later at the age of three. The drug developed for her treatment, which bears her name, is still being administered to children facing similar battles.
Due to the rarity of this condition, it is difficult to find corporate backers and research grants. This is why I am asking for your help. The money Team Valeria raises will continue to fund that research and help children in families in need.
I cannot thank you enough for your support.
See you in Falmouth!
