My beloved wife Susan is in the early stages of ADRD (Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias).  Before my contact with ALZ.org, I had not appreciated the range of dementias that have been identified – their similarities and their differences in etiology, symptomatology, and potential treatments. Thanks to the resources at ALZ.org, I am now entering the world of ADRD caregiving with at least a modicum of competence.

I have now become Susan's primary caregiver.  Even at Susan's early stage of ADRD, I find myself struggling with myriad issues, ranging from the emotional to the logistical.  Through ALZ.org, I have discovered a range of resources that, at one end, are helping me understand at least the rudiments of ADRD, and at the other end, are giving me access to support groups comprising both experienced caregivers and others who are in the same metaphorical boat as I.

My current need for support surprises me: By both nature and education, I am a very organized person.  But my new present demands a very different range of organizational skills than I have ever contemplated before.  ALZ.org is pointing me toward the resources I need.

Over more than a decade I have run the Falmouth Road Race annually to fundraise for several very worthy causes.  Before this year, I had always felt that my running and fundraising were on behalf of people who could not run themselves.  This year is different!  This year, I am entering the Race with the hope of enabling people – both copers and caregivers – to retain their selves!
