My Story…
Hi everyone! My name is Emma Shahabi, I'm originally from Boston, Massachusetts but spent every summer on the Cape growing up with my grandmother in Falmouth. It's common family lore that the first time I ran the Falmouth Road race was in my mother's womb in 1998. I've ran it several times since (on my own now) and this year I'll be running for the Good Sports charity team!
Having three older sisters, our parents sent us into sports at the earliest possible moment. We played soccer, tennis, and lacrosse together, often on the same teams. When I decided to keep playing lacrosse through college at UCLA, my sisters came to as many of my games as they could. Lacrosse was one of my favorite parts about college and I still carry a lot of love for the sport, helping coach and attending games when I can. However, though originally a Native American sport, lacrosse has often only been accessible to certain communities and backgrounds, typically due to the expensive equipment costs. Often times on my teams in the past I would be one of the few non-white players on the roster. I'm joining the Good Sports team this year because I'd like to help expand access to lacrosse to these underserved communities and specifically help increase the number of people of color playing the sport.
Thank you to everyone who is reading this and supporting my fundraising for the Falmouth Road Race this year. I truly couldn't do it without you!
