Help Lily raise money

This year, I am running The 2023 Falmouth Road Race to raise money for Brigham and Women's Hospital because this hospital holds a special place in my heart. In 2016, my Meme was diagnosed with a rare and fatal lung disease. She was given a second lease on life on August, 2 2017 when the doctors and nurses at Brigham and womans performed a bilateral lung transplant. I am forever grateful for these 2 and 1⁄2 years of precious time spent with my meme and therefore want to take this opportunity to give back. Brigham and Women's hospital took such exceptional care of my meme while she battled with her lung disease and while she was on the transplant list. During the years that my meme battled with this disease, I was there either in the waiting room or walking around the hospital, so a part of me feels very connected to this place. I would go with my mom and meme just for the rides into Boston for my memes appointments, just to give them extra company on those long car rides. We made the most out of them because I guess that's all you really can do in situations like this. The doctors and nurses were always so kind to my meme and treated her with such care at every single appointment and hospital stay. They made sure we felt comforted during this time. Even when she would have overnight and we would have to sleep in the waiting room they made sure we knew they were there for us if we needed anything. 

Usually when you think of a hospital, you think dark, sad and gloomy, but somehow my meme made it the exact opposite when she walked into that place. She didn't want this lung disease to define who she was and she somehow made it an effort to turn this negative situation into a positive journey. When my meme finally got a lung transplant in 2017, all of the years of relying on her oxygen tank to help support her breathing, was over. The dream of getting a new set of lungs to be able to breathe again came true for her. The transplant team operated on her and was able to give her a new set of lungs. On this floor she was greeted every day and night with such amazing doctors and nurses. They took such astonishing care of her after her transplant and even us as her visitors. With this surgery being very major and complex the doctor's kept her there for many weeks. Over this time we all created such good relationships with all of the doctors and nurses. She became very fond of one doctor and they created such a cute little bond with one another. He made her feel comforted and offered the support she really needed. Although we were there almost everyday, my mom and aunt also worked, so when we were not there it was nice she still felt comforted by the nurses and doctors she formed these close relationships with. When I found out Brigham and Women’s Hospital had a team I knew that was the one I wanted to support and raise money for. When my family and I needed their support when my meme was there they gave it to us and now is my time to show them how thankful I am for giving my meme such great care. To my bestfriend and my meme I love and miss you so much this is for you. No amount is too small for this cause, any amount is appreciative.
