My Story…
In 2004, Robbie and Brittany Bergquist were 12 and 13 years old and happened to catch a news story about a soldier deployed in Afghanistan who needed help paying his $8,000 cell phone bill due to roaming charges and calling his family from overseas. They immediately went into action, donating their piggy bank money and hosting a community car wash, bake sale and other activities to raise funds. As a result, they were able to pay off the soldier’s entire cell phone bill. This experience made them aware of a systematic problem and the challenges US service members faced calling home and staying connected with loved ones. They realized they had a greater mission to fulfill and this started them on the path of creatingCell Phones for Soldiers. For nearly 20years, the non-profit organization has provided cost-free communication services to active-duty service members and veterans.
