Our story…
On March 4,2020. I gave birth to my first born son, Kameron Stewart Battles II. He was 40 weeks and 5 days. He was beautiful and perfect. I had the best 9 months with him. Everything seemed to be going well until I went into the hospital to be induced. It was a beautiful day and I walked into the hospital which shocked everyone.
I was so excited and ready. However after I put on the hospital gown, they hooked me up to the monitor to get his heart rate. My Tech left to get another nurse who could help find the heartbeat. That nurse went to the head nurse to try to get her expertise. They told me that they were going to get my doctor who may be able to help. I laid there wondering what was going on. The doctor came in the room and checked for Kameron's heartbeat as well, but to no avail. The words came out of his mouth "I am so sorry to tell you but he does not have a heartbeat and didn't make it". I yelled to the top if my lungs in disbelief. He was our birthday gift. How could he be gone. A week prior they said he was fine and set me up for my appointment the next week. How could he have not made it. I couldn't understand.
It was the worst day of my life. After hours of excruciating pain inorder to give birth vaginally I was rushed to have an emergency C-section 5 days before my birthday I held my lifeless son in my arms. He was beautiful and perfect. Only thing that was missing was his breath. He was 7lbs and 6oz. His beautiful long fingers seemed to be ready to learn the piano like his mommy! I had plans for him to sing Tenor with me. He was going to play the violin. He was going to love me. I was going to be complete as a woman. But just in a moment, all of my dreams were crushed and plans erased.
During those painful moments a photographer from Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep came and took the most precious photos of my family. These pictures hit even harder now because my name sake, my grandmother whose hand is also displayed in the pictures, is no longer with us either. She passed 5 days after my birthday in March 2022. I have so many memories of my grandmother and son that are so precious because of the creative and caring photographer.
I pray that I will be ready to see Jesus coming in the clouds and that i may see my son and grandmother again soon. I am so very thankful for the NILMDTS foundation and would like to support other families create these wonderful memories in these hard times. These pictures mean the world to me and I am so grateful to have access to them.
