My Story…
In January of 2022, I had an ischemic stroke two days after my 48th birthday. In February, I was diagnosed with the incurable rare brain disease Moyamoya. This is a progressive cerebrovascular disease that causes the walls of the arteries in the brain to thicken until they close. In March, I had surgery to create both indirect and direct bypasses on the right side of my brain. Between March and May, I had two more strokes and in June I underwent another brain surgery to create two indirect and two direct bypasses on the left side of my brain. Running has been a part of my recovery from both the strokes and surgeries.
