Our story…
“Scholze Family and Friends” was established for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life after our mom passed from lung cancer. That team took a hiatus for a few years, but we have brought it back after two of the six sisters in my family had breast cancer diagnoses.
METAvivor focuses on research for METAstatic breast cancer (MBC). You may not know anyone with MBC (unfortunately I know too many) but if you know anyone who had early stage breast cancer, it may surprise you to know that :
👉🏻30% of early stagers will eventually metastasize into MBC.
👉🏻MBC has no cure.
👉🏻Once diagnosed, those patients are in treatment for the rest of their lives hoping to keep the cancer at bay, and those treatments often have life changing side effects.
👉🏻Sometimes those treatments start to fail, and the patient has to hope there is a new treatment available that will work for them.
👉🏻The average life expectancy after diagnosis is currently only 3 short years.
👉🏻115 people per day die from MBC. Moms, daughters, sisters, nieces, dads— yes men can get MBC too.
Come walk with us. If you are unable, please make a donation. ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of the money we raise will go toward a research grant for MBC.
