My Story…
Mental illness has been a constant struggle for me. Around 2016 I began to seek help for depression. After experimenting with counselling and low-grade medications, my family doctor realized it was a little more severe than that. I was referred to a psychiatrist in Prince Albert, which was a 6 month wait. That didn’t work out, so we were back to the drawing board. I finally found a psychiatrist in Saskatoon that I see periodically. That was another 6 month wait. I was diagnosed in 2018 with anxiety that has been around long enough that it caused me to slip into depression.
It took 2 years to get my stuff even slightly straightened out. I still am working on coping and levelling out medications etc… This should not be! Mental health resources in this province are almost null. It should not be this hard-to-find help. Luckily, I am not a severe enough case to require immediate help… but I have talked to people that are in immediate need and the resources just aren’t there.
