Hello everyone!

Sixteen years ago I helped found Cassie + Friends to transform the lives of 24,000 children in Canada who suffer every day with Juvenile Arthritis and other painful childhood rheumatic diseases like childhood Lupus. 

My personal connection to the cause has been 16 years of watching my daughter, Cassie, battle this painful disease. She has endured medication after medication.   Thousands and thousands of injections, hundreds and hundreds of medical appointments, lots of lots of tears and pain and many beautiful triumphs as she overcame challenge after challenge.  And now like a blink of an eye, she is no longer a toddler and is off to university is managing all of this on her own.

Its difficult to think about Cassie off into the big wide world…..it's even more difficult knowing she will be out there while still doing two injections a week, needing to find a rheumatologist and an eye doctor for regular appointments, making school accommodations due to pain, storing medications and disposing of needles, managing nausea and fatigue…all on her own.

This has fueled my drive to find a cure and get to a pain-free future for these kids!

At Cassie + Friends we ensure that every child and family in Canada living with Juvenile Arthritis has the help they need -  from research and education to connection and support. We continue to build our national programs so every child and family in Canada has complete access.

My run in Edmonton will be my 4th of the year and  I am running for all the children with Juvenile Arthritis and thinking each step of the way about all the challenges these kids must overcome everyday just to keep up.
