My Story…
My sister, Cayla, was diagnosed in May 2020 with vulvar sarcoma. Cayla’s journey took place during the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic in which she had- 3 surgeries in 3 months, several “visits” to the tumor board (for treatment recommendations) for ‘Celeste’ the (what we thought was a ) Cyst (turned out to be) Tumor, several consults with different docs, us coming to terms with her needing radiation, finding out she may not need it, and finally discovering she had a rare type of soft tissue cancer that could be treated with a targeted oral chemotherapy. Throughout this time, she found both financial and emotional support through Sue’s Gift and now with continued no evidence of disease results since her last surgery Cayla has been able to volunteer, mentor, and share her story as a survivor through Sue’s Gift events.
