My Story…
Dear Friends,
I'm running a 5km this year in the Calgary Marathon to support the work of Canada Bridges. An organization that for almost 10 years, has been a continual source of joy, community, challenge and change in my life.
One of the things I value most about our work, is that its not just about our own programs and activities. Its about what we can do together with others, and how we can leverage opportunities for amazing youth and young adults to bring forward their new ideas and perspectives, that might not be possible alone. You can read more about our work, some of our partners and why Canada Bridges is running for youth led-change. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to work with awesome young leaders everyday, who continue to challenge me to think differently, try new things, and understand each other more deeply. I think that this is needed in our communities and society at large.
This run is just another example of bringing joy, community, challenge and change into my life. I've ran a bit in the past, but never with much consistency or much enjoyment. Having the inspiration of running for something that I believe in to get me going with this. Once I started, I enjoyed it so much, I think it might be a new practice for me! The last few months have been a challenging time for our family, and running gave me a bit of an escape and freedom from everything going on. It was also a chance to re-explore the community where I grew up and literally take a run down memory lane – my route brought me by my old school, church, friends houses and parks. So many amazing memories and people it brought to mind. When I returned to Calgary earlier this week, our dog Galla joined me in my training runs, and I found out she's an excellent running buddy (as long as we avoid getting too close to squirrels and rabbits). I’m looking forward to continuing running together and exploring our current community more, even after this 5k is done.
Just like our work, by running together with others we can leverage so much more. If you want to join in this adventure of the run and the broader work of Canada Bridges, I would so very much appreciate your financial support or contribution. Every dollar counts, and no amount is too small. We have a generous donor who has offered to match the first $4000 we raise as a team, so the impact of your contribution will be doubled!
I am also grateful for the amazing community of support that I have to do this work – from friends, family, partners, and community. Regardless of whether your able to contribute or not at this time, thank you for your ongoing support of me, of Canada Bridges and all our communities.
With much love and gratitude,
Alyssa
