Our story…
Nursing students in need can count on Power in Numbers for emergency assistance. “It takes courage to say, ‘I need help,’” says Dr. Zahra Shajani, BN’02, EdD, associate dean. Barriers to access help are minimal by design, says Shajani. “They’re already in crisis, so they don’t have to explain themselves — that just makes them more vulnerable." And the impact is clear — students are getting help. “Especially the ones that are single moms trying to juggle school and kids, just trying to survive.”
Thanks to the generosity of donors – many of whom are students themselves - UCalgary Nursing created the Power in Numbers Fund in 2017. It is based on the premise that even a $2 or $5 donation, when combined with other small or large financial gifts, can make a significant impact and may change the life of a student. The fund supports undergraduate students who may require emergency or temporary financial assistance.
