Dan's Story at The Doorway

Dan joined The Doorway a year and a half ago and instantly exuded a cool confidence. He was extremely engaged in the process from the start and aggressively worked on goals. He expected that he would be at The Doorway briefly, that this was just a quick stop on his journey. About 4 to 5 months into his process however, Dan began to lose steam. He seemed more discouraged and disengaged. The “streets” were getting him down. Participants can get discouraged by writing down goals and then struggling to follow through. Dan experienced this. He felt like things were not changing and he had set a different timeline and expectation for himself. He was encouraged to continue showing up, writing down more manageable and smaller goals, potentially making them more realistic to build some momentum. A few months later, Dan felt like he was back on track. When asked what had helped, he said “Just showing up and always writing down my goals. Eventually, I figured I might as well start slowly doing them”. One day, Dan mentioned he wasn’t going to be around too much anymore. He said he would be too busy working and had moved into a new place. And so, a year into his process, Dan was gone.
