My Story…
In 2019, I went through some genetic testing and found that I have a rare genetic condition called PTEN Hamartoma Tumor Syndrome. PTEN predisposes me to a few different cancers, thyroid cancer being one of them. A few months after the genetic testing, my doctors found a cancerous tumor on the right half of my thyroid. Fortunately, the tumor was detected early, and it was removed before the cancer could spread.
The whole process was very tough to go through and left me in bad spot both mentally and physically for a long time afterwards. I became severely out of shape and lost all sense of purpose.
Fortunately, I was able to find my health again and have ran 1 marathon and 3 half marathons since my health challenge. In doing so, I have raised $8,400 dollars for Young Adult Survivors United, a health and wellness community that provides social, emotional, and financial support to young adult cancer survivors.
Once again, I’ll be running the Pittsburgh Half Marathon for Young Adult Survivors United. The goal is to continue to help people who are going through some of the same things I did and cross the $10,000 mark.
