Help Sabrina raise money

For participating in 2024 DICK'S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend

My Story…

Hello there! After a great 2023 Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend running the relay with friends, I've decided to run the 2024 Pittsburgh Half Marathon! This year, I'm fundraising for 412 Food Rescue and would appreciate donations of any amount!

Why does 412 Food Rescue's work matter to food insecurity?

1 in 7 Pittsburghers experiences food insecurity.

There are over 34 million individuals struggling with hunger and food insecurity in the U.S. and over 300,000 in Western PA.

Just one-third of the food we throw out would be enough to feed this population.

Food insecurity is a complicated problem caused by a range of factors, both individual and systemic, that contribute to a lack of access to sufficient and nutritious food.

412 Food Rescue is revolutionizing the way needs are met by addressing the main barriers of time and transportation by partnering with over 4,000 local nonprofits to bring food directly to those who need it most.

Their analysis shows that our food distribution network enables 50,000+ more people living in high-poverty areas to be within a 15-minute walk of food, as compared to traditional hunger intervention locations.

Why does 412 Food Rescue's work matter to sustainability?

Up to 40% of all food that is produced in the U.S. goes to waste.

Since 2015, 412 Food Rescue has prevented over 31 million pounds of perfectly good food in Western, PA from going to waste. That's the equivalent of more than 26 million meals, mitigating over 60 million pounds of CO2 emissions in the process.

The United Nations released a report in April of 2022 that it’s ‘now or never’ to limit global warming. Food waste is the largest component in municipal landfills and is one of the largest contributors of greenhouse gas emissions. Of the 100 most substantive solutions to reverse global warming, reducing food waste has the third-largest impact on climate change (Project Drawdown).
