Join me in the fight to create a world without type 1 diabetes!

In a world that often tests the limits of our compassion, there are moments that forever alter our paths, illuminating the causes we need to cherish. For me, that pivotal moment was the day I learned about Type 1 diabetes and its ruthless impact on the life of someone so dear to me.

Caroline Simms, one of my best friends for as long as I can remember, embodies resilience in the face of adversity. Yet, when she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, I witnessed firsthand the storm of fear and uncertainty that clouded our worlds. It was a day etched with a mix of disbelief and the stark realization that life can shift in an instant. Even though I was young, I remember the scared look on my mother’s face. I remember the word “coma” and “emergency”, and I knew something was not right. The days and weeks followed, where I watched Caroline poke and prod her thumb and use weird machines that spit out a number. I remember thinking how much that must’ve hurt. On top of that, I remember thinking that she reminded me of my mom and aunt, who are both healthcare workers, because she knew things like how much insulin to give, what insulin even was, and exactly what that random blood sugar number meant. No kid should know that stuff- let alone the battle that they continually face for the rest of their lives.

Caroline's journey through the labyrinth of managing Type 1 diabetes has been a beacon, not just for her resilience, but for my own understanding of spirit. Her unwavering resolve to not let this condition define her, has been an inspiration.

Witnessing Caroline's unwavering battle further ignited my passion for medicine, and it intertwines with another journey of mine—the half marathon I’m running for JDRF. Running has been my solace, my way of pushing boundaries. And now, running isn’t just about personal milestones; it’s become a symbol of my dedication to funding JDRF’s fight against Type 1 diabetes. JDRF is the vanguard in the fight against Type 1 diabetes. Their relentless pursuit of a cure and their unwavering support for those affected by this condition resonates deeply with my own aspirations. Their commitment to funding groundbreaking research, advocating for policy change, and providing unwavering support to those impacted by T1D is both awe-inspiring and indispensable.

My commitment to fundraising for this noble cause isn’t merely a half marathon; it's a promise to Caroline, a pledge to every individual facing the daily trials of Type 1 diabetes, and a testament to the hope of a future free from its grasp. Every dollar raised, every effort made, is a step closer to a future where needles and constant monitoring are relics of the past.

Join me in this journey, as together, we write a new chapter—a chapter where hope triumphs, where breakthroughs define our narrative, and where Type 1 diabetes becomes a memory rather than a reality.

Description

Welcome to my personal Team JDRF to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!

I have joined Team JDRF to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.

Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.

JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.

Please support me and donate to my fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible today?

Thank you for your support!
