My Story…
I’m so proud and honored to be back for the third year in a row with Sawyer running in honor of my grandmother and her great grandmother, Jean Robison. Our first year we raised a total of $386 and our second year a total of $353 for the Alzheimer’s Association. This year we are hoping to break $400! This will also be the first year that I am breaking off and running the 5k, as well as the mile run with Sawyer!
Unless you’ve seen Alzheimer’s first hand, it’s hard to fully comprehend the scope of this disease. This disease slowly and methodically rips away the person that you loved from your life, while still keeping their body present in time. It’s devastating for the person diagnosed with it, and even more so for those around that person who slowly watch them fade from their lives. An estimated 6.7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s and 1 out of 9 people over the age of 65 are diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. There has been so much progress the past few years with clinical trials and research, but there is still so much more to do.
If you or someone you’ve known has ever been affected by Alzheimer’s, please consider donating. Those of you who knew my grandmother knew she was the most caring, welcoming, beautiful soul. Your donation may save my generation, or Sawyers generation, from having to see Alzheimer’s slowly dim the light in the beautiful souls of those we love.
Thank you, xoxo, Carly and Sawyer
