My Story…
I’m Jeanine, I'm 36 years old and have had rheumatoid arthritis for 22+ years now.
I was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis at 14 years old. As a teenager I went from managing my social calendar to managing doctor appointments and an incurable chronic illness. By graduation, my arthritis had spread to over 5 joints affecting her hands, knees, ankles, and feet. My first semester in college I started weekly injections and collegiate soccer. I was told maintaining my health and athletic career would be improbable. While improbable I never gave up. I finished college as a two-sport athlete in soccer and cross-country.
I still have days where I struggle with my disease and worry about the long-term effects of medications. For me staying active, truly helps manage my disease. Having met so many amazing auto-immune warriors over the years I am constantly inspired. Inspired to be active because I can, I want to do more for those who cannot, and I want to help raise awareness for the nation’s leading cause of disability. 1 in 4 Americans have arthritis and the faces of arthritis are everywhere and likely you or someone you know is or will be affected by this illness. Research is expensive, funding is limited but together our joint efforts can make a significant difference!!
