My Story…
Ahoy!
It's almost time for the Vancouver Marathon (May 5) which means it's time to start dusting off those credit card details to donate to the Canadian Mental Health Association - Vancouver Fraser.
2023 was a year of massive downs and ups for me. The summer was full of some very challenging physical and mental health issues culminating in a diplegic migraine. 10/10 would not recommend. Long story short, with incredible support from health care practitioners, family, and friends, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and started taking an antidepressant to reduce the physical pain and help stabilize and boost my mood. And what a difference it has all made.
The past six months have been some of the best in my past decade. My energy is higher, my mood is better, my mental clarity is clearer, and I have managed more consistent marathon training than ever before. I am incredibly fortunate to have the support I needed all around me, but there are many among us who do not. This is where the Canadian Mental Health Association comes in.
Founded in 1918, the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) is the most established, most extensive community mental health organization in Canada. They are a federated charity, which means they are a collective of organizations bound together by a brand and mission. Together, they identify and respond to Canada’s most pressing mental health priorities. At the national and provincial level, they push for system and policy change. At the community level, millions of people in Canada rely on CMHA’s extensive grassroots presence.
Please join me in supporting this incredibly important organization in our community.
Sincerely,
Tyler
Description
One of our goals is to support youth mental health early, to give them tools to support their life and most importantly, let them know they aren’t alone in their fight. Whether this was your story as a teen or now, or you saw a family member struggle with mental health and weren’t sure what to do, running for CMHA-VF is a commitment to making the Vancouver Fraser community better.
You are pounding the pavement anyway, and doing it as a mental health ally with a great song pushing you forward will have more impact than you can imagine. You can be the match that lights a child up and lets them know they have a lot of fight left in them.
