My Story…
In any given year, 1 in 5 Canadians will personally experience mental health struggles or illness and by the age of 40, about 50% of the population will have or had a mental illness. Mental illness affects people of all ages, education, and income levels; however, systemic inequalities such as racism, poverty, homelessness, discrimination, colonial and gender-based violence can worsen mental health and make mental health resources difficult to access. Without the right support, people will mental illness, their caregivers and family experience great suffering leading to the need of robust mental health care system support across the country. This year I am running to raise money in support of the Canadian Mental Health association which provides a variety of programs, services, supports and expertise to people suffering with mental health. The money donated will help increase awareness and support for members of the community struggling with mental health illnesses. Join me in raising money for a great cause!

One of our goals is to support youth mental health early, to give them tools to support their life and most importantly, let them know they aren’t alone in their fight. Whether this was your story as a teen or now, or you saw a family member struggle with mental health and weren’t sure what to do, running for CMHA-VF is a commitment to making the Vancouver Fraser community better.
You are pounding the pavement anyway, and doing it as a mental health ally with a great song pushing you forward will have more impact than you can imagine. You can be the match that lights a child up and lets them know they have a lot of fight left in them.
