My Story…
Hello Everyone,
I am excited to share with you my personal goal for this year - running my first marathon! However, this marathon is not just about the physical challenge for me; it is also an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.
I have chosen to run in support of The Ottawa Cancer Foundation (formerly Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation) because of the incredible work they do in our community. Their commitment to providing effective community-based cancer care, resources, and programs is truly inspiring.
In addition to supporting this amazing organisation, I am running in honour of two remarkable men who have had a profound impact on my life. My much loved brother-in-law, Mike Baine, and my dear friend, Phillip Clarke, both fought courageous battles with cancer. They not only faced their own challenges but also dedicated themselves to raising funds for cancer research and programs.
Mike's determination was truly remarkable. He is a great inspiration to me. He ran numerous marathons, half marathons and even a half Ironman. His passion was long distance, high altitude hiking. Hiking to Everest Base Camp, Mt. Blanc and Machu Picchu to name a few. Even while undergoing cancer treatment, he completed a half marathon and raised over $100,000. Phillip established the Evening of Hope, a gala evening aimed at raising funds for research, clinical trials and awareness. This inspired friends and neighbours to continue his commitment by holding an annual golf tournament, The Philip Clarke Golf Classic, which has raised tens of thousands of dollars for The Ottawa Cancer Foundation.
By donating to my fundraising page, you will not only honour the memories of these outstanding men but also provide much-needed support to individuals living with cancer, their caregivers, and their families. Your contribution will make a real difference in their lives.
Thank you for considering supporting this excellent cause. Together, we can make a positive impact in the fight against cancer.
Warm regards,
Julian
