My Story…
This May I will be ending my Ottawa Race Weekend drought, and it has been a fun challenge to get back into running after many years out of the sport. In a fun twist, my five-year-old has decided that she would also like to run, so she will be completing the Family 2km on Saturday, before I race later that evening.
Apart from the benefits of (hopefully) imparting a love of exercise to my girls, we will also be running in support of Ovarian Cancer Canada - support of all kinds (well wishes, , kudos, chirps) is welcome!
Ovarian cancer affects 1 in 75 Canadians born with ovaries. While it primarily affects people over the age of 50, it is not uncommon in younger populations. In late 2021, our family embarked on a difficult journey with ovarian cancer, though which we have found strength, hope, and a powerful resolve to make a difference. Ovarian cancer continues to be the deadliest gynaecological cancer, in part, because it is often detected at much later stages.
Ovarian Cancer Canada is dedicated to supporting those affected by this disease, and funding crucial research towards better treatments, early detection, and awareness. In addition, the organization helps to create support networks for those living with this disease and their loved ones.
