For participating in 2024 PUMA Toronto Women's Half Marathon/10K/5K

Help make a difference in childhood cancer!

Hello again!

Guess what? This May, I’m gearing up for another exhilarating challenge – the PUMA Toronto Women’s Run. But this time, I'm not just aiming to match my previous feat; I'm aiming to surpass it. Last time, I conquered a 5K, and now I'm ready to double that distance with a 10K run!

Why am I hitting the pavement again? Because I'm passionate about raising awareness and critical funds for a cause very close to my heart – The Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO).

Here's a staggering fact: every year, over 4,000 families in Ontario have a child undergoing cancer treatment or follow-up care. And while over 84% of these children will survive, many face complications from their treatment or the disease itself.

That's where POGO steps in. The funds we raise will provide essential support:

- Financial assistance to families, helping them cover the out-of-pocket costs associated with their child's treatment.
- Tailored school and work counseling for survivors who face learning challenges due to their disease or treatment.
- Funding for groundbreaking research that explores the impact of childhood cancer and its treatment.

Join me as we lace up, run, and truly make a difference for these brave children and their families!

Description

Hello!

This May I’m lacing up and running in the PUMA Toronto Women’s Run to raise awareness and critical funds for a very important organization – The Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario. (POGO)

There are over 4,000 families in Ontario with a child in cancer treatment or follow-up care each year. More than 84% of children diagnosed with cancer in Ontario will survive, but many of these survivors will experience complications either due to the disease itself, complex surgical procedures, or the rigorous rounds of radiation and chemotherapy they were given during treatment.

Funds raised will provide:

  • financial assistance to families so they can pay for out-of-pocket costs associated with their child’s treatment
  • support survivors with customized school and work counselling when their disease or its treatment has left them with learning challenges
  • fund promising research that examines the impact of childhood cancer and its treatment.

In this video, POGO Interlink Nurse, Tina Hamalainen illustrates what is involved in an ALL diagnosis - medically, emotionally and logistically - by sharing one family's experience.
