My Story…
Nobody issues you an instruction manual for your body after SCI or similar disability - the best information comes from people living with it themselves. We spend a lifetime learning how to manage the things that everyone else's bodies do without a thought - it can be a lot to deal with, but SCI BC means that help and community is here for us when we need it. What to do when you find a pressure ulcer, deal with air travel as a wheelchair user, or information to help you tackle common complications with your primary care doctor... just a few tools we created to help each other adjust, adapt and thrive with SCI in BC.
SCI BC members and participants are all over BC, youth and seniors, parents and grandparents, newcomers to Canada, indigenous people, LGBTQ+ peers, athletes, writers, lawyers, students and professionals. Too many live below the poverty line. Too many don't have family doctors or accessible places to live. Many are unable to marry the person they love without losing their disability income benefits and the extended health coverage that pays for essential medical supplies.
We live in a time of great need and upheaval. There are many needs out there - I hope you will help me support one that is extremely close to home, and help SCI BC support people with disabilities to adjust, adapt and thrive in BC.
