Our story…
The Society Promoting Environmental Conservation (SPEC) is a charitable organization that promotes practical solutions in the areas of sustainable food systems, zero waste, renewable energy, and reclaiming elder wisdom. Since 1969, we have empowered communities and individuals to act toward a greener future. We work with individuals, children, organizations, businesses, industries, and policymakers, to develop community capacity and address a wide range of sustainability challenges. Our practical approaches include eco-literacy education in our School Gardens Program and waste-reduction education in our Master Recycler program; with seven programs run by four committees, we are adaptable to diverse work styles and understand the need for cross-pollination opportunities such as volunteer management, stakeholder relations, and efficient communication.
