My Story
I am participating again this year in the Sporting Life 10k on team Benjamin the Brave supporting Campfire Circle.
Many of you know that my niece and her husband’s son, Benjamin, was diagnosed at age 4 with LHC, a rare form of cancer.
While undergoing many, many rounds of chemotherapy and multiple other procedures at Sick Kids, Ben experienced the magic of Campfire Circle through visits from camp counsellors who engaged him with crafts and activities.
Thanks to the Doctors, nurses and all of the care teams Benjamin is now in his second cancer free year. Recurrence is highest within the first two years so there is a ways to go, however there is every reason to be optimistic and thankful.

When a child is diagnosed with cancer or serious illness, it impacts the whole family. Kids miss out on simple childhood joys, household incomes are often cut in half as caregivers take on the full-time responsibility of caring for a sick child, and families struggle to make time for special experiences.
