Our Story
On August 22 2012 my son Asher was born; happy, smiling, and seemingly healthy. At 3 months old, he developed a bump on the back of his head that grew significantly in a very short amount of time. As a result, we visited our Pediatrician and were informed on December 12 that our son had been diagnosed with LCH, a very rare auto-immune disease. Subsequently, we spent the next 2 years in and out of McMaster Sick Kids Hospital with our son receiving 764 treatments, including multiple rounds of chemotherapy, bloodwork, and a few emergency overnight treatments.
Though a difficult process for our family, the leaps and bounds made in treatment from trial and error on our son, other kids all over the world gained new opportunities for treatment, as every time something worked to battle the disease, conference calls occurred internationally to all LCH specialists. He became part of the cure.
That said, the battle is and will never be over until this disease is eradicated. I am running to support LCH, but also running to help send kids with LCH(considered a form of Cancer) and other diseases to positive, life changing experiences provided by groups like Campfire Circle.CampFire Circle gives kids both in-treatment, and who have completed treatment to go to hockey games, camps, nature experiences, etc, with medical teams and psychologists to experience and talk about their experiences with children who have had similar hardships
Description
Help deliver healing through happiness to kids with cancer or serious illness and their families.
When a child is diagnosed with cancer or serious illness, it impacts the whole family. Kids miss out on simple childhood joys, household incomes are often cut in half as caregivers take on the full-time responsibility of caring for a sick child, and families struggle to make time for special experiences.
When you donate to Campfire Circle you are supporting in-hospital, community and overnight camp programs that create opportunities for children to build friendships and social skills, develop self-confidence and resiliency, and improve their overall well-being. Through play-based experiences, you are helping empower kids to take back their childhood, regardless of their medical diagnosis.
With your support, we can continue to offer our programs at no cost to families and grow our circle of care to provide additional play-based experiences across all four paediatric hospitals, and improve our medically supported and accessible overnight camps so that every eligible child can benefit from our innovative and impactful programs.
Thank you for helping to build a world where children thrive and families heal.
